Disney Pixar will be using social media more than ever to promote their latest film Toy Story 3. One of the newest forms of social media the company will use is Promoted Tweets.

Twitter recently announced a new advertising platform in the form of Promoted Trends. Toy Story 3 is the first to use this new tweet ahead of its US release on June 18. Promoted Trends is an extension of Promoted Tweets, which are regular tweets used by businesses that want their tweets to be seen by a wider group of users with tweets appearing at the top of the search results page. Promoted Trends will appear at the bottom of the Trending Topics list.

Using Promoted Trends will allow companies to feature their products in trending topics on Twitter without having to wait for them to become popular. Once it appears on the trending list, hopefully it will start generating twitter posts to help it become a really popular trending topic.

Disney Pixar would be getting Toy Story 3 in a trending topic long before the film was released, thus generating a lot of tweets about it in preparation for release. This is especially useful for films that may only be tweeted a lot after they are released.
