Ford Motor Company Joins Forces with 3M and GE Healthcare in Battle Against Coronavirus

Ford Motor Company is teaming up with 3M and GE Healthcare to help speed the production of live-saving respirators and ventilators critical to the fight against the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Ford is now working with 3M to manufacture at-scale Powered Air-Purifying Respirators (PAPRs), leveraging parts from both companies to meet urgent demand for first responders and health care workers. In addition, the company is exploring production of the new PAPR in a Ford facility in addition to 3M production.

Working with GE Healthcare, Ford is helping to expand production of a simplified version of GE Healthcare’s existing ventilator design to support patients with respiratory failure or difficulty breathing

Ford, in cooperation with the UAW, will also assemble more than 100,000 critically needed plastic face shields per week at a Ford manufacturing site to help medical professionals, factory workers and store clerks. Ford says it will also will leverage its in-house 3D printing capability to produce components for use in personal protective equipment.

General Motors Joins the Fight Against COVID-19

General Motors is teaming up with Ventec Life Systems to increase production of respiratory care products in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.

In cooperation with, the nation’s coordinated private sector response to COVID-19, GM will provide logistical, purchasing, and manufacturing expertise to help Ventec build more of their ventilators, according to a joint press release from the organizations.

“We are working closely with Ventec to rapidly scale up production of their critically important respiratory products to support our country’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Mary Barra, GM Chairman and CEO. “We will continue to explore ways to help in this time of crisis.”

Since 2012, Ventec Life Systems has been dedicated to redefining respiratory care to improve patient outcomes and reduce caregiver challenges in the hospital and home. According to its website, the company’s “history of patient-centric design includes more than 10 care changing respiratory devices and more than 40 patents.”

149 Classic and Performance Vehicles to be Sold by Feds at Online Auction

The U.S. Marshals are selling 149 classic vehicles at auction that were seized last December in a law enforcement raid of failed start-up energy company DC Solar which sold mobile solar power generators.

According to The Drive, the vehicles up for bid include:

  • 2017 Bentley Continental GT V-8
  • 2017 Cadillac CTS-V
  • 12 Chevrolet Camaros of varying vintages
  • 9 Dodge Challengers, including a 2018 SRT Demon
  • 1969 Dodge Daytona
  • 2002 Dodge Viper RT/10
  • 7 Ford Mustangs
  • 11 Plymouth Road Runners, three of them Superbirds
  • 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am owned by Burt Reynolds
  • 12 Cummins-powered Ram pickups

Federal officials are calling Benecia, CA-based DC Solar’s fundraising methods a Ponzi scheme. A smaller crossover SUV version of the Ford Bronco, named the Ford Bronco Sport, is expected to be available for purchase in late 2020, followed by the much anticipated full-size 2021 Ford Bronco hitting dealerships in early 2021.

These images, according to Jalopnik and other sources, are leaked photos of the brand-new 2021 Ford Bronco Sport crossover SUV, which was slated for an official unveiling next month, according to a previous Automotive News report.
